About us

SEA (Same Sex Attracted Eastern Action Group)

Background

From 1998 – 2001 many initiatives targeting SSAY were developed and implemented across the eastern region.  At this time however, workers felt isolated and disconnected from other initiatives and developments that were occurring. In response to this lack of coordination a group of workers from four different local government municipalities in the eastern region came together, with a vision to create a group to respond to this need.  It was recognised that local government youth services could have a key role in coordinating service delivery across their municipalities as a group. The workers established an action group made up of workers from the seven local government youth services in the eastern region. A worker from each municipality was targeted, and a meeting was held to establish the viability and commitment of such an initiative. Hence SEA was established, with the aim of creating a coordinated response to service delivery for SSAY across the eastern region.
